MegaFunk.com Revised not “Re-launched”

Buy this Book at Amazon.com! Megafunk.com my minimalist collaboration with R/Kain Blaze that began in 2002 is now under serious renovation—or just revision. These are some of ‘new’ findings unearthed in the design journey:

  • JavaScript support in most A-level browsers (since 2002) is advanced enough to take over some of the things Macromedia Flash could handle—like displaying images in a “gallery”…
  • PHP (since 2002) can handle XML far better than in the past—this allows a power-user, like R/Kain Blaze, to manage his site through one or two XML configuration files that PHP can now handle (previously Flash did this).
  • MegaFunk.com should experiment with YUI and Zend to take advantage of the advances in JavaScript and PHP, respectively.### Design Notes

These are the next moves toward high-priority targets:

  • My current working version of the Zend Framework should be installed to provide a standard server framework and the groundwork to fill the “babble” section with syndicated ‘widgets.’
  • The use of table elements should be eliminated to (finally) address advances in CSS implementations (since 2002).
  • The vertical height of the site navigation should be reduced to further increase the sense of minimalism and allow images in the “browse” section to use more space.
  • A navigation solution is needed to move from gallery to gallery under the “browse” section.
  • There is an API for CafePress.com. This Café Press API might be used in the “buy” section under the Zend Framework. Café Press now has a developer site with documentation for their API.
