Too Little Too Late for Orde Coombs

Orde CoombsAccording to Wikipedia.org, Orde Coombs became an ancestor in 1984. His short bio’ reads like just the kind of profile neo-conservatives do not celebrate: he went to your best schools and graduated—and still remained interested in issues that are different from what “the good people of Texas” are interested in… I daresay that he did what few “people of color” do: he got educated but not assimilated… to sound-bite Farai Chideya, Orde Coombs influenced change from “within and without”…

One of the “out” thangs Mr. Coombs has in his legacy is We Speak as Liberators: Young Black Poets (1970). We here at kintespace.com are honored to just barely scratch the surface of this ‘rare’ (neglected) book with our presentation “Shirley Staples: Getting It Together.”

Now that “our” college admission system is “color blind,” finding a new Orde Coombs is not likely… To get beyond my flippant remarks, read “Discrimination Behind Low Admission Rate of African American Students to University of California Can Be Remedied” by Dr. Darnell M. Hunt.
