Even the Ars Technica “Budget Box” Has an ‘Expensive’ Video Card!
“Ars System Guide: January 2006 edition” clearly shows that we’ll need an NVIDIA Geforce 6600GT (US$119.99) for the Budget Box and an eVGA GeForce 7800GT (US$295) for the Hod Rod. Video cards are expensive! As I’ve watched prices fall for memory, hard drives, motherboards and even LCD monitors these video cards are partying like its 1999! I’m sure they move pixels much, much faster now…
Let Brian Won tell you about video for the God Box.## The New Darling Motherboards for ArsBack when I was building PCs (not long before my last kit fest) the favored motherboard of the Ars crew was from MSI. I failed to respond appropriately to their ‘switch’ over to Epox. The article “Athlon XP 1700+ spontaneous reboot problem” reminds of my not-as-frequent rebooting problems. Perhaps an Epox board would be better?
