Design Diary: The Carousel Component

Over 7,000 machines and humans (or humans and machines) have enjoyed the space visitors page here at kintespace.com. In 2006 this page was updated to archive the kinté thumbnails that show up on our home page. The archive component is a primitive form of the new Carousel Component at billscott.com. Unlike many of the new “Web 2.0” JavaScript “framework” components out there, this thing demoed well on modest (old) hardware. It did so well that I had to write this sentence about it.

Because this component requires the Yahoo! UI Library, I’m not quite motivated to try it out on the space visitors page—but I do feel a tipping point coming on… Right about now, I can’t justify running a big-ass JavaScript framework just to run one component.
