Schadenfreude Gets around…

Schadenfreude on DilbertI felt very respected when the author of a Salon.com article, Sally Eckhoff, left a comment for my Blog post, “‘The Terrible Mystery’ of Gayl Jones.” Obviously she did not get the email from the country club that states quite clearly to make no effort to support me in any way whatsoever. She was moved enough to remind me of that German word, Schadenfreude. It was a little surreal to see this word as the feature of a Dilbert comic a few months later. The mind is without limits and limits of knowledge are not set. Support shows up in mysterious ways.

Meanwhile, outside of the mind, the next target for Schadenfreude among the Web 2.0 glitterati is Kevin Rose, “the 60-million-dollar man.” In episode 65 of TWiT, Kevin insists that he can’t even afford a couch. Is this more promotional gambling from a Las Vegas native? Will digg.com be finally exposed as the elite gentleman boy’s club that it clearly is? Slashdot never pretended to be anything else but geeky—never even the smallest hint that Slashdot is the democratic technology solution for all mankind. Rocketboom.com and the ass-mastery of Michael Arrington have given us enough Germanic pleasure. Why am I wasting my time neandering and meandering with these virtual dudes? It may be time for me to drop a few news feeds.

Yep /. only cared about the news and its ability to have nerds of like mind discuss topics that were interesting. No contest ever. I never really understood how digg differentiated itself.
