Flippant Remarks about OpenLaszlo and EC2

This framework is server based—Tomcat server based. I failed to see the significance in this sentence written quite clearly at Wikipedia.org: “The OpenLaszlo platform consists of the LZX programming language and the OpenLaszlo Server.” This is quite different from my incorrect assumption that this was—at least—a command line tool that ‘compiled’ Flash movies. The bottom line is that OpenLaszlo is a continuously-running process. For us poor people, using shared and hosted servers, this means we can’t use it.

However, the promise of Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) means that we can run any continuously running process we want (as long it runs on an Amazon Machine Image that’s open source—right?). With EC2 I dare to say that Amazon Web Services LLC is the first real Web 2.0 company.

Actually, you can use OpenLaszlo on your machine to compile your application into a SWF, and then just put that file on your web server.
