Humanity Links of the Week

The Wall Street Journal summarizes recent U.S. Census data in Adobe Flash format in “Update on the American Dream.” This hard data is of course a companion to our poem here at kintespace.com “The American Dream.”

Speaking of monuments for rich people, we can’t forget about Dale Carnegie and his famous book How to Win Friends & Influence People. A free summary of this wisdom is online. One pointer is to get people to do things for you. This happens to coincide with my definition of a friend—a friend is a person that does things for you. In fact, they enjoy doing things for you. Of course this does imply that you do for them as well.

What many non-pimping descendants of enslaved Africans would come up with is that to “make” people friends you have to first do things for them—in America that just ends up working for free and, in spite of Web 2.0, working for free still can mean slavery.
