MonaLisa, Her Studio and the L.A. Collective
MonaLisa Whitaker represents the best of what the L.A. Collective stands for. Period. This photo is from years ago when she was preparing her studio space on Warren Lane in Inglewood, CA. You can clearly see that see that she is all about getting the work done in hands-on high-energy.
It is my privilege to work with her in the planning and production of original content for kintespace.com (and YouTube.com). As Gil Scott Heron says when introducing new work on the stage, the idea is to show my respect for Son House—which can be extremely risky as my person is making some serious presumptions about not just Son House but about ancestors much, much older than him.
This photo is from our studio session on Warren Lane. This work is definitely so-called “art work”—and this “art-work” is about African Restoration. So my assumption is that this is the first time in so-called “art history” that the African Restoration School is introduced to the world. There you go. Poof. More on these grand pronouncements later…
