ROLAND M. McFARLAND, a native of St. Paul, Minnesota, experienced the gift to sketch and paint at a very early age. His mother a witness to this talent, encouraged him to continue his education in the arts. Shortly after graduating from high school. He attended Minneapolis School of Art in Minnesota. Later attended Winsor University of Los Angeles (Graduating with a Master of Science in Communication.)
After many years working as a Commercial Artist in and outside the continental U.S. for Northrop Grumman Corporation, he brings a wealth of technical experience and knowledge to his creative work. His masterful paintings often reflects Afrocentric themes and portrays an abstract mixture of past and present in representational forms. His works in acrylic, gouache and mixed media has an extraordinary sense of beauty often reflecting his interest in exploring color in textile patterns and revealing depth of character in portraiture.
Mr. McFarland’s work has been on display at the Orange County Artist Outlet Gallery, Ferguson Gallery of Design (Covina, California), Mount San Antonio College (Walnut, California), Black Affordable Art Gallery (Los Angeles, California) and the University of Southern California. Currently he is a member of Art 2000, and the African American Collective Artist Group in Los Angeles, California. Many of his paintings brighten and enlighten the homes of people across the U.S.
