@NewBlackMan The main problems I found (in the 1990s) were difficulties around making simplifying assumptions to solve problems, understanding the cultural need to formalize English to match the formal language of maths and, oh yeah, white supremacy, characterized mostly by social isolation.

I’m hearing conflicted reports on director John Singleton that he has died or that he is alive on life support.
Either way pray for him. 🙏🏾❤️ https://twitter.com/ashlemonade/status/1122864573806194689/photo/1
Lifting my highest thoughts + prayers of intercession for John Singleton. His films helped form me. His kindness lifted me up. I remember him coming to the premiere of my indie years ago. Showing love/support for a fellow black director from LA. He is a lovely man. Pray with me. https://twitter.com/ava/status/1121556650899361793/photo/1
#JohnSingleton has passed away at the age of 51. Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the prolific filmmaker at this time. I was discovered by a master filmmaker by the name of John Singleton. He not only made me a movie star but made me a filmmaker. There are no words to express how sad I am to lose my brother, friend & mentor. so so accurate. Men need more friends (who talk to each other about life, not just women. Or about women in an honest true way.)
Be suspicious of anyone who refuses to receive correction until/unless you change your delivery. Demanding the most civil, polite, gentle, warm communication FIRST leaves power wholly w/the person who committed the harm. Don’t fall for this trap. The goalpost will keep moving.
@Ajairah1 BTW this movie (and Nia Long) also resonated with me but in real life the financial realities of too many black women coupled with black male incarceration rates make the life of a poet far from “romantic”—and i was one of those poets😇
@Ajairah1 All previous attempts to make our “own” platform were largely pathetic copies of white designs which means it was not Black innovation from jump. And once we actually innovate we have to defend our invention from appropriation without compensation😇 and historical revision.
@Ajairah1 You call a woman
“African woman”
She no go ’gree
She go say
I be lady o
...
Let me tell you About “lady”
Let me tell you About “lady”
“Lady” now master “Lady” now master 😇
@Ajairah1 You have touched upon a complex of things🐣
- in corporate IT immigrant culture it is very rare to find a woman from India who is not married (like it is required)
- keeping you in the home country with Arab neighbors is also risky
- easier to migrate out of the continent than in
@Ajairah1 You are sounding like a deep learning device built in Russia again😇
@Ajairah1 You would have to let me show you my chalkboard over a video call for this one😇 ---been trying to set this up for years with you😢
@Ajairah1 Here is my sound bite: China may rob us but they won’t make us worship them like gods—European-style colonialism has this debilitating, likey-likey component that makes white supremacy a religion, deforming consciousness, nurturing self sabotage, straightening hair, etc🌍
@Ajairah1 No one trapped in the English language has a logical explanation (outside of word translation errors) for “thy rod and thy staff they comfort me” and “spare the rod and spoil the child”😇 There is something else going on, kids.
@iamshayness @Ajairah1 @socialsoul @HomelandAfrika @CoonBusted the traditional technique to deal with being trapped in English is to deliberately break English without concern about others thinking we are ignorant of it
- replacing I with me to reduce ego
- suppressing the hypothetical if
- replacing wishes and hopes
etc.😇
@Ajairah1 Yes and so many young Africans will assume that these flashes of violence are “traditional” instead of colonial, dating back to imperial Rome or something from the house of Saud. “Spare the rod and spoil the child” is a famous mis-translation🌍 that makes violence sacred😢
@Ajairah1 Yeah, we black people have our own white people. Since Liberia, the negro tradition asks what appears to be a “reasonable” question, “Why can’t we be mediocre and lavishly rewarded too?”😂😇
@Ajairah1 @LeeJasper Black is step one. African-centeredness is step two. And step three has not been around in force since about 700AD😇 so let’s not talk about step four...🌍
@Ajairah1 😇😍👁️🧠may you find what every eye within you is seeing for the sake of wisdom for the sake of vitality
