[Coleman] was disinvited to a book signing at Eso Won Books, the leading African American bookstore in Los Angeles. This shocked Coleman, & according to ...James Fugate, many locals. I'm curious as to how the term "hotep" developed a negative connotation. The word itself just means "to be at peace." But a lot of us aren't, so there's that... https://twitter.com/GeeDee215/status/1143649576001384449
@TorraineWalker It doesn't have a negative conversation. The word, a triliteral (three consonant) word out of Middle Egyptian with literal translation generally accepted as "peace," is over five millennia old. A little contemporary adolescent remixing and ignorance-fed shade is hardly permanent.
@AfricanaCarr @TorraineWalker Folks who are truly impoverished yet luxuriantly materialistic see no immediate gratification from shit that is a week old let alone 7,000. Deeper still, «hotep» is a lazy, western-vowel-ridden mispronounciation that “scholarly” Americans will do and do with a famine in the land.
By studying the original meaning(s) of two words, we would have a powerful American history education:
- motherfucker (reveals the horrors of slavery)*
- hobo (hoe-boy reveals that black boys were the original migrant workers after slavery)
- @Reelblack has Dick Gregory on tape
Teaching blues: Have u ever taught a class on the blues in the middle of the day when it’s 80 degrees f outside throughout Chicagoland? It sho’nuff gives u the blues. What was I thinking? I wasn’t.
It ain't no heaven
It ain't no burning hell
Where I go when I die
C'ain't nobody tell
It ain't no heaven, now
No burning with the burning hell
Where I go when I die
C'ain't nobody tell😇
When I first
Start to hoboin'
Hoboin'
I took a freight train
to be my friend
Yet I hoboed
And then I hoboed
I hobo long away from home
(Yes, I did.
Long time ago...)😇
Whiteness must undo itself to make way for the truly radical turn in contemporary culture: http://theartnewspaper.com/comment/whitney-biennial-whiteness-must-undo-itself
@NewBlackMan Yes, the phrase “I am white” is still spoken to this day and is still considered a “harmless” designation of personal ethnic identity instead of a colonial-era, systematic, racist identifier used to accrue surplus by institutionally disenfranchising non-whites.
Also, look at the colour of this Persian Shield 😍 https://twitter.com/RowenaMonde/status/1145794971326279680/photo/1
@RowenaMonde Ah, a colonial style name: native to Myanmar but poetically associated with Persia😇 verdant luminous circulation bulging with radiating folds of purple symmetry studded with spikes (?)
@KinteSpace Ah, interesting! No, mine doesn't have spikes
@RowenaMonde Your lovely photo is showing me little tiny spikes in the leaves👀 looks like a typical plant-based defense against insects🔪🍂🌞
@KinteSpace Ah, I see. I was thinking big spikes, lol. Very smart plants
@RowenaMonde The tiny spikes might be the leading reason why it is not edible😷🍜
@asetindigo a drive that high from a woman with an age so low (according to the profile pic) surely means only thing: pregnancy
